The Mature Soul
Michael channeling by Sarah Chambers
I - The first level mature soul seeks, above all else, right relationship with self. The inner life begins to form in this fragment. Perceptions about self are preoccupying, and this fragment learns about service to self. The dangers here are that this mature soul can become very self- indulgent to the point of being narcissistic. The more solid roles (scholar, warrior, & king) generally begin meditating at this level. Narcissus is the archetype here, but it does vary, with some first level mature souls becoming obsessed with "good works." Even so, if you dig deeply enough with these fragments, the motive behind their frenetic volunteerism is to make themselves look and feel good. Contrast this with the holdovers from the young soul cycle of material success. Even at this early stage of the mature soul cycle, the perceptions and the goals have altered substantially.
II - The second level mature soul seeks, above all else, right relationship within the family. This fragment will often compromise his/her own needs in order to seek peace and fulfillment within the family constellation. A lack of nurture in this fragment's childhood, will more often than not leave lifelong psychic scars. Sensitive and creative, this fragment seeks approval at every turn of the road. Rejection is viewed as a rejection of his/her soul. Regardless of the essence role, this fragment expresses his/her creativity through whatever work is chosen. Underlying this is always the desire to please and win approval from the Mother.
III - The third level mature soul seeks, above all else, right relationship with a circle of friends. Loyal and steadfast, this fragment loves his/her friends and works hard to cultivate and keep friendship alive. The "life of the party," often manifests in the third level mature sage. Entertaining his/her friends is very important, and often a way of keeping the relationship alive. The author of "How to Win Friends and Influence People", Dale Carnegie, was a third level mature soul.
IV - The mid-cycle mature soul seeks to integrate right relationship with self, family, and friends, while assimilating the experiences of the first three levels of this soul age. This soul, above all else, endeavors to incorporate all relevant accumulated knowledge into his/her lifestyle. This fragment is generally deeply intuitive and contemplative, and requires alone time to process data more often than other fragments. Public outpourings from the psyche are common at this level. The poets W. B. Yeats, Jelaluddin Balkhi (Rumi), Leonard Cohen, T. S. Eliot, Percy Shelley, and Yevgenny Yevtushenko are/were all mid-cycle mature souls, as are/were the writers Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky, Jean Genet, Virginia Wolfe, Anais Nin, Victor Hugo, Anne Rice, Mary Renault, and Barbara Kingsolver, as were the philosophers Plato, Michel Foucoult, Bertrand Russell, and Immanuel Kant.
V - The fifth level mature soul seeks, above all else, right relationship with the community at large (the tribe). This fragment works for approval no matter what he/she does, and the approval must come from the entire spectrum of the community. Many fragments at this level seek public office, but often fail to win it because they are perceived as being too smart or too nice. Eugene McCarthy was an excellent example of a fifth level mature soul who was not perceived as presidential material by the vast majority of the American public because of his own soul- searching personality. The writer Mary McCarthy (no relation) was a shrewd critic of the superficiality of a young soul world saying, among other things, that "Bureaucracy, the rule of no one, has become the modern form of despotism." Many entertainers with large followings are fifth level mature souls. Beatle Ringo Starr, and the fragment who was Wolfgang Mozart and is now Michael Jackson are excellent examples of this. Canadian singer and lyricist Joni Mitchell is a fifth level mature soul. Her lyrics are also a very shrewd commentary on the mores of a young soul cycle
VI - The sixth level mature soul, above all else, seeks right relationship with the world at large. This fragment is the archetypal "ambassador without portfolio." Many of the greatest statesmen of all time have been sixth level mature souls. Anwar Sadat, Dag Hammarskjold, and Franklin Roosevelt are good recent examples of sixth level mature souls. Already this fragment has begun to look ahead to the old soul cycle, and to perceive that there is "something" greater than him/herself that include him/her. In his book, Markings, the fragment who was Dag Hjalmar correctly said of the concept of maturity that is was. . . "among other things, the unclouded happiness of the child at play, who takes it for granted that he is at one with his play-mates."
VII - The seventh level mature soul, above all else, seeks right relationship with nature and the environment. This fragment will often explore animist spirituality and perform shamanic rituals that involve the use of power animals and totems. Environmental activism is common in these fragments, and they will often renounce wealth in favor of their principles. If they are the owners of a business, they will incorporate environmental principles into their business practices. The owners of businesses like Ben & Jerry's and Starbucks are examples of this. Jacques Yves Costeau, Ralph Nader, George Leonard, and John Lily are/were all seventh level mature souls, as is Francine "Penny" Patterson, founder of the Gorilla Foundation and mentor to Koko and Michael.
